Opinion on Oprah

Before I get to the title of my post, just wanted to make you aware if you haven't already seen, Sarah (my sister) and Matt have a blog to showcase the newest addition to their family. There's a link on the right hand side under "Blogs I Read" (The Rhine Family) or here it is:

So I was watching Oprah today, which is not something that I normally do, but I was folding laundry and watching the girls play so I like to have something on in the background. Fridays are her live in Chicago shows where her and 3 other people discuss headlines around the world. I was only halfway into the show and already rather disturbed by what I was seeing. Supposedly Iowa has now legalized gay marriage. That was news to me. They had a lesbian couple of on there that says there is a saying, "As Iowa goes, so goes the rest of the country." My immediate thought, "Help us, Lord." Of course, Oprah and her panel (1 of which is gay) was celebrating and all excited. It got me thinking though about really how quickly every state may end up legalizing gay marriage. Will Hannah and Kate live in a society where it's okay to be married to someone of the same sex? How much harder will it be to teach them that homosexuality is not biblical and in God's design for humanity. I know that some people say that the Bible changes as society changes, but Hebrews 13:8 says, "Jesus Christ is the same yesterday, today, and forever." In addition, 2 Timothy 3:16 says, "All scripture is inspired by God and profitable for teaching, for reproof, for correction, for training in righteousness..." Therefore, if God clearly says in 1 Corinthians 6:9, "Or do you not know that the unrighteous will not inherit the kingdom of God? Do not be deceived; neither fornicators, nor idolaters, nor adulterers, nor effeminate, nor homosexuals...will inherit the kingdom of God." If the Bible is God inspired, the very breath of God, and God never changes, then it can be soundly said that His Word never changes either. If His word says that homosexuality is wrong, it's wrong. We can't change it to fit our lifestyle.

I guess in light of having children and knowing that I will be raising them in the society we live in, it scares me a little. All the more reason to teach them Scripture and the Truth. Oprah has a lot of influence and it's just sad that so much influence is used to convince people of a falsehood.

  1. Amen! I know exactly what you mean (being fearful of the society in which you will raise your children). And, Oprah happens to be one of my pet peeves.

  2. It is comforting to know and believe that you will be bringing up your children according to the Scripture. Satan is always present and inheriting those who are weak.
