Heigh Ho, Heigh Ho, It's Back to Work He Goes...

Hannah-doesn't it look like just a head with no body

Kate-she loves to cuddle with her beanbag things (you can see them in the right corner of her crib-we got these from the NICU) when she sleeps so I thought I'd try a mini-blanket, but she kept putting it over her face so we went back to the beanbags

This would have been a sweet picture if I hadn't cut off half of Kate's face.

So George is finally back to work, two months to the day after he got bit. Who knew it takes two months to recover from a snake bite? We've both concluded it has been a blessing in disguise. It's funny because I was thinking the other day how I have been out of work for 6 months now. It seems weird to think that I haven't had a job (as if parenting isn't a job) for that long. It's nice.

The girls officially turned 6 months old yesterday. I can't believe they are that old already. One of Kate's new tricks is grabbing at toys (half of the time on accident) and putting them in her mouth. Hannah has gotten really good at sticking her thumb in her mouth, which I hesitantly admit is kinda cute. They are both eating about 5 ounces. Hannah's appetite seems to be decreasing a little bit so I am going to raise that concern with her pediatrician on Friday when they have their 6 month checkup.

I tried something brave and adventerous today. I took the girls to Target today by myself. Yes, me, Hannah, and Kate. Kate slept in her car seat in the cart for about half of the outing and I carried Hannah in a baby carrier. She loved just looking around at everything. They were both really good the whole time. I must admit I somewhat miss the days of being able to just jump out of the car and run in to the store. It took me at least 5 minutes to get them situated. I also can't go shopping for large amounts of things because there isn't a lot of room left over in the cart, but it works. I'm sure it will only get more interesting as they start getting older. Give me one bad experience at the grocery store and I will probably swear off taking them shopping with me.
I just started reading a book called The Power of a Praying Parent by Stormie Omartian. I only got through the first couple of chapters, but God really brought some things to my attention already. I pray with/for the girls every night as I put them to bed, but lately my prayers have been, "God, please give them a good night's sleep and keep them healthy." I've been unsatisfied with the depth and sincerity of my prayers for them, which is why I wanted to start reading this book. The Lord pressed an idea upon my heart that I am really excited about. I am going to start a prayer journal for each girl. In it, as they go through different seasons in their life, I am going to write out my prayers for them. It probably won't be a daily occurance, but I want Hannah and Kate to see how God is using my prayers for them. I want them to know that during the hard times in their lives, especially when they get to be in middle and high school, that I am praying for them. I know that it probably won't mean anything to them until they are older, but what a sweet legacy of faith to pass on to them. I am simply laying a spiritual foundation as they are unable to do that for themselves right now.

  1. Lauren they are starting to really look more more alike now that they are getting bigger. They are both beautiful. I love that book power of a praying parent. My girlfriend who has twin boys would go everywhere with her boys and I don't know how she did it. She uses two shopping carts pushes one and pulls the other so she has room for groceries. AMAZING to me.

  2. I love the new pictures!! They are just too cute! Good job for braving Target... sometimes, just to get out with the two boys, I go to Target during the day and it is quite the ordeal with two nine month olds. I put one in the seat and the other in the cart in his carrier, talk about no room. I love the prayer journal idea!

  4. I agree that the girl's are beginning to look SO much alike! I love it :) You are such "super mom" to me!! I used to get nervous taking one baby out shopping and stuff. It took me forever to realize it's OKAY if she cries in public! lol!
I'm going to have to pick up that book! I love the Power of a Praying Wife so I'm sure that one would be a good read, too!
